About Me

Hello and welcome to my personal blog!  My name is Jim Schnorrenberg, and I am married to Gwen, the love of my life. We have been blessed with 3 sons, and all are married to wonderful ladies. And we have 8 beautiful grandchildren (and counting).

I grew up in Pauls Valley, a little town in central Oklahoma. I went to college at Oklahoma State University (“Go Pokes”) and still bleed orange. After college, we got married and then went into the US Air Force. I eventually went to seminary and joined the US Army, retiring as Chaplain. Military life was an adventure, and we lived in three foreign countries (Thailand, England and Germany), 10 states, and endured around 17 moves.

I am currently the Pastoral Care and Counseling Minister at First Church, Owasso, Oklahoma.  I am also a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists AAMFT) and the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC).

I know that’s a mouthful, but I just have a keen interest in helping strengthen families and marriages and will write often.  However, I will also write about current cultural issues that pop up and affect us all. By the way, check out the “My Book” page for info on a book I recently self-published: Couples in the Bible: The Good, The Bad, and The Downright Evil.

I write with an internal template, with the letters – SSS

  • S – Stories About Yourself (SAY), or stories that I hear or read about that speak to living and raising a family in this culture.
  • S – “So what?”  What is the application to me and for those I love?  What is the point?
  • S – Step.  What is my next step?  Based on the story or observations I make, and the application, I will challenge you (and me) to take that next step.  Don’t just “catch and release”, but catch and hold and change your life.
  • S – Smile.  OK, this is a bonus one.  I want to live and write in such a way that Jesus smiles.  Pretty simple.

Here are some of my top posts from the past:

  • 10 Things Every Family Needs
  • The Value of Dads
  • Three-foot World
  • The Roseto Mystery
  • No Bad News

Basically, just scroll through the archives and get a sample of what I write about and how I write. I know you’re busy, so I try not to go beyond 500 words in my posts.

I like to read, exercise, teach, travel, watch movies, and root for my beloved OSU.  However, I still support OU and all other Big 12 schools when they are not playing OSU.

Families are God’s idea and I want to do all I can to help you have a strong family and marriage.  I will be sharing any wisdom I have from 43 years of marriage, and I hope you will enjoy this site and always find something useful.  Basically, I just want to be attentive, available, obedient, and live to make Jesus smile.

Life is beautiful.

Adios – Jim

Jim “Ed”, since that is what we all knew you as! What a thrill it was to connect with your sister on Facebook. She sent me this link and it brings a smile to my face and a warmth to my heart.
Hmm, must be the PV spirit that allow us to be Cowboy fans and still root for OU and everyone else in the Big 12. I feel the same way.
Sounds like your have a tremendous wife and family. I am married to a wonderful man who is an ordained Presbyterian minister. He serves as president of University of the Southwest, Hobbs, NM, www. usw.edu, which is a Christian university with no denominational ties. Between us, we have 5 adult children, three of whom are married. We have 2 grandchildren with one more on the way.
So good to read your blog.

    Marilyn
